What is your previous work experience, if any? Please describe briefly.

"While completing my undergraduate degree in International Affairs, I gained exposure to policies impacting human development and environmental security. As a leader in student refugee advocacy networks, I contributed to open-source maps for humanitarian aid, volunteered with immigration nonprofits, and analyzed climate-induced displacement. Community partnerships remained a priority through my internships with the U.S. Department of Commerce and the Honey W. Nashman Center for Civic Engagement and Public Service. After graduation, I worked as an Assistant Account Executive in crisis communications. I developed a case study on the cybersecurity weaknesses within federal water systems, fuel pipelines, and electricity grids. I monitored the global impact of energy shortages. My work experience and undergraduate research in resource security encouraged me to pursue the Masters in Environmental Management."

Why did you choose the Nicholas School's professional master's degree program(s)?

"The Nicholas School’s faculty showcase an unmatched commitment to environmental justice and local partnerships. Professors at this school lead international and local initiatives to develop climate resiliency, implement strategies for extreme heat, and increase electricity access. Reading about their thorough and diverse research deeply inspires me. The interdisciplinary opportunities at 51±¬ÁÏ also thrill me. Research labs at the Nicholas School combine analytical models with conservation policies, decolonization practices, biodiversity issues, energy access, social sciences, and justice. My peers are incredibly passionate about environmental impact and have vast academic backgrounds, making the Nicholas School my dream opportunity. The Nicholas School’s vibrant and compassionate student body creates such a welcoming community on campus!"

Do you have any areas of interest or special focus you plan to undertake during your time at the Nicholas School and 51±¬ÁÏ?

I am excited to learn about practical strategies for transitioning to renewable energy at the Nicholas School, specifically solar power infrastructure and policies. Through my Environmental Analytics and Modeling concentration, I aim to strengthen my GIS skills and explore drone applications. I would like to gain experience with wildlife conservation, especially applying GIS tools and drones to wildlife tracking, which would be a new professional area for me!

What are your career aspirations?

I hope to contribute to equitable energy access and international wildlife conservation programs after graduating from the Nicholas School. I plan to continue prioritizing local partnerships and community engagement throughout my career.
